Knight started out as a player for the Ohio State Buckeyes in 1960 where that team won the championship. From 1965 to 1971, Knight was the coach for the Army Black Knights, but from there, he would become the coach for the Indiana Hoosiers for the next 29 years and concluded his coaching career with the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 2001 to 2008.
Throughout his coaching career, Knight won 902 games, appeared in the NCAA Final Four 8 times (5 as coach, 3 as player), he was also an olympic gold medalist in the 1984 Olympics, won 3 championships with the Indiana Hoosiers, and inducted into the 1991 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Under Knight, the 1975-76 Indiana Hoosiers went undefeated.
